The idea of green computing turns some people off because they think it is hard to do. There are many notions that some people have about green computing, like throwing away their old computers and replacing them with newer and more energy-efficient models.

The fact is that you can come off the grid and you can even sell your surplus, home-made electricity back to the grid. This is not likely to make you a lot of money, but it is a lovely feeling after only paying out for decades. However, the savings of life off the grid do not end there. There are ecological savings and the saving of human life too.

If we are to look at the world’s consumption on oil based products you can clearly see that it rises each day. One clear example for this is the traffic we see on our roads. And the production and reserves for this does not really grow in an instant. If we really have to seek a energy company source it should be the one that comes from a natural flowing stream of energy. And there’s nothing more available energy in the world than green energy.

When we say energy saving hour it doesn’t only mean that we are only saving energy. We are also saving water. The most common source of energy comes from hydropower. Since water is a common source of our energy it means if we don’t have enough supply of water we have less supply of electricity too. With this fact, it’s telling us that we need to conserve water as possible. Examples would be fixing our water line that have leaks or damaged or minimizing our shower time. If it takes about 10 minutes to take a shower then you can minimize it to 5 minutes if it’s okay with you. Through this you are conserving a lot of water.

One of the renewable energy sources that is really moving forward is known as biomass. This allows for common waste materials including wood, trash, crops, and even gases from landfills to be used to create energy. This is also going to reduce the amount of materials lying around in our landfills. Maybe one day the use of geothermal energy will be more plausible. Right now though it is complex, complicated, and expensive. The procedure for accessing it involves going into the core of the Earth more than 4,000 miles beneath the surface.

One of the reasons solar energy was not used in the past was it could not be stored and used later. Modern technology has made many strides in storing and using renewable energy. In today’s world, batteries to store solar or wind generated energy are much more efficient.

Then Barbara had a thought. Why not take their plans into the country? With a larger property, situated near a stream or a river, on a few acres, they could add a cistern for water storage, handle a larger garden, more for the surplus, get more chickens and goats and even a few more bee hives. Cattle and pigs could be added.
