Traveling abroad is an art. It requires intellect to plan, courage to enact, and perseverance to endure. When planning your dream trip, you must walk a fine line between over- analysis and not-so-blissful ignorance (summer in Sudan, anyone?).
If something doesn’t look or sound right, chances are it isn’t. So you need to know what you should do to correct your situation. There are a lot of things you can get or do to make your travel safer; money belts, locks, etc. I will cover many of these in a future my blog. Unless you learn to be aware of what’s happening around you, your vacation could end badly.
It’s not possible to travel to all places. Sometimes, you may be required to write on places which you have never visited. A good travel writer would also be a good reader. You should have a sound geographical knowledge about places. You should read a lot to increase your knowledge bank. For a travel writer, it is important to read and write a lot. In fact, you should always keep a notepad ready to jot down descriptive notes of the places which catch your fancy.
Monetize the blog. You won’t make any money with your blog unless it is monetized. There are three primary ways to monetize a blog: advertising revenue, affiliate sales and sales of your own products. If you are just starting out, you probably won’t have any products of your own so its best to start with ad revenue and affiliate sales. For the beginner, Google’s AdSense is a good starting place for getting good contextual based advertising revenue. For affiliate sales there are many travel related affiliate products at Commission Junction and Amazon’s Associate program. There are many, many more programs you can use to monetize your blog but I recommend these because of ease of use.
(5) Publish regularly. This, aside from “have good content,” is the easiest tip to follow in the normal course of business. Publish 3-4 times a week, because as you get a following people are going to actually want to follow you. If you are going to be in a place that has bad internet access, take a day out to write some posts and schedule them to go up automatically, which is also simple in a WordPress self-hosted blog.
Why not consider what kinds of product or service you may be able to offer? Do you have a new album to release? Sell your music through your website, using your blog to promote it on your social platforms. What about offering your services as an online business mentor? Think about your skill set – do you have an emerging business idea that you can use your blog to promote?
Now that you know the proper way to leave comments, get online and start commenting. Be respectful and get to the point. There’s no reason not to write a proper comment. As a travel writer, you’ll have an advantage over others because you know how to write!
